Brown has gained a stellar reputation as one of the bright new talents on the scene, working with a who's who of Jazz artist.

This quartet is so amazing on so many different levels...go see 'em whilst they still exist in PDX. I really think this one could go a long way in the Jazz world!

He is a uniquely talented performer and educator, and a man in whom I trust and for whom I hold great admiration.

I used him almost exclusively in my band when he used to reside in the NYC area, as he always brought so much knowledge and artistry to the music. And combined with his multi-instrumentalist abilities, Chris Brown is a unique talent that's not often found.

The Christopher Brown Quartet + PJCE @ Montavilla Jazz Festival **FREE**

  • Mt Tabor Park Southeast 60th Avenue Portland, OR United States (map)

For the past 10 years now, the Montavilla Jazz Festival has worked to create a lane for themselves within the music producing ecosystem here in Portland. And through their steadfast efforts, they’ve continued to grow in popularity and relevance year-over-year. So needless to say, I’m proud to announce that I’ll be headlining at this festival once again. But this time I’ll be augmented by eight other musicians outside of my core quartet. So this will certainly be the largest undertaking of a group performance that I’ve ever done where my musical aesthetic is the principle focus.

The theme for this performance is called “Unearthing the Extraordinary.” And what better place to showcase this than in the caldera amphitheater in idyllic Mt Tabor park. Simply put, all the music is inspired by the monumental successes of six ordinary people who have accomplished extra-ordinary levels of success and impact over the years. And those people would be Phil Knight (Nike), Sara Blakley (Spanx), Wynton Marsalis (Jazz @ Lincoln Center), John Maxwell (Author), Gert Boyle (Columbia), Dan Wieden (Wieden & Kennedy).
