This quartet is so amazing on so many different levels...go see 'em whilst they still exist in PDX. I really think this one could go a long way in the Jazz world!

I used him almost exclusively in my band when he used to reside in the NYC area, as he always brought so much knowledge and artistry to the music. And combined with his multi-instrumentalist abilities, Chris Brown is a unique talent that's not often found.

Christopher Brown Quartet ft. Dr. Lewis Porter

  • The 1905 830 North Shaver Street Portland, OR, 97227 United States (map)

It has always been a dream of mine to repay in interesting ways those who have helped me along the way. And here’s yet another opportunity for me to do so. On 10/13 I’ll be creating space in one of the most important spaces that has helped me to further refine my musicianship. And that space is none other than The 1905. In short, I’m proud to feature one of my most important college professors, Dr. Lewis Porter, at this venue. This Grammy nominated artist has appearsed on 37 albums with people such as Dave Liebman, Marc Ribot, Gary Bartz, John Patitucci, Terri Lyne Carrington, Tia Fuller and many others, in addition to 10 of his own.

Since Dr. Porter is so well known across the globe as being a leading authority on all things related to Jazz history, we’ll begin both shows with a Q&A about John Coletrane, Thelonious Monk, and jazz in general.
